Huge thank you to @olly_pemberton for sharing why his flowtech aktiv system is the perfect travel companion.
"For over a decade I’ve been lugging a lot of kit around in some really wild locations. After each shoot I return with a list of how to refine, tweak and adjust my equipment to make things as efficient as possible for the next. It was almost as if Sachtler had managed to peek at that list when they came out with the aktiv head flowtech system…
First of all it’s robust so you can really put it through its paces.
There’s also so much thought into the nitty gritty details. The quick release spigot system is so easy you end up just doing it for fun. Its flowtech legs are smooth in such a way that adjustments can be made without the squeak of doom scaring wildlife. I also love a ground shot angle and you can be down low in seconds. There’s even a tiny light on the spirit level saving you ruining your night vision when adjusting for night timelapses.
By far one of my favourite recent additions to my field kit." Olly Pemberton, Director/Cinematographer.

“As a fast-paced production company working across the globe, no two days look the same. One day, we could be shooting a commercial in a NYC studio and the next, we’re trekking across the Australian desert capturing documentary pickups. The conditions and terrains we find ourselves in are rarely predictable, so we rely on gear that’s ready for anything. It’s never about the brand name, it’s about having equipment that fuels confidence and creativity on every set. That’s why Sachtler sits at the foundation of our support system.” Tyson Leith - Founding Director.

“When you get the right conditions, you need to be ready to capture as many shots in a day as possible.” – Flo Eckhardt, Pirate Movie Production
Remote powder locations demand speed, agility, and zero downtime. With the RED KOMODO and Sachtler flowtech100 + aktiv10, Pirate Movie Production could move fast, set up in seconds, and never miss a moment.
Light on their shoulders, fast on their feet, and rock-solid for the shot - that’s the freedom Sachtler brings to extreme filmmaking.

“We no longer have to sacrifice cinematic quality for mobility.” – Basti Balser, Pirate Movie Production
When you’re chasing riders through Alaska’s backcountry or hiking remote Japanese powder, every second counts. That’s why Pirate Movie Production trusts the Sachtler flowtech100, paired with aktiv10 and Cine20 heads, to keep up with the action.
Light enough to carry over mountains, stable enough for heavy cinema lenses, and intuitive enough to operate with gloves on in -20°C - the flowtech system lets the team focus on the shot, not the gear.
In extreme filmmaking, reliability isn’t a luxury - it’s a necessity. And with Sachtler, Pirate Movie Production can capture every once-in-a-lifetime moment with speed, precision, and confidence.

For over two decades, @piratecrew’s Basti Balser and Flo Eckhardt have filmed where most crews never set foot: the remote back country in Alaska, deep powder forests in Japan, and high-alpine terrain where weather moves in minutes and every ounce of gear matters.
On their latest feature snowboard film “PAVED” for Burton in co-production with Red Bull Media House, the demands were higher than ever.
✔️Multiple continents
✔️Unpredictable snow
✔️Heavy cinema lenses
✔️Helicopter drops
✔️Sub-zero temperatures
In these conditions, the crew relied on the Sachtler
flowtech100 paired with the aktiv10 and Cine20 fluid heads - equipment that lets them move fast, stay agile, and trust that every setup is rock-solid, no matter the terrain.

“The flowtech aktiv system adapts instantly — we set the legs, level from the top, and get the shot.” — Andrew Hara
Hawaiʻi filmmaker Andrew Hara works in landscapes where the rules change by the minute — volcanic ash that behaves like glass, thin air at 4,000 m, and winds strong enough to shake metal supports. In conditions like these, even small delays can cost the shot.
With the Sachtler aktiv + flowtech system, Andrew stays ahead of the environment. The carbon-fibre legs remain stable in sub-zero temperatures, the brakes stay dependable even when he’s chipping off ice, and aktiv’s top-leveling lets him react instantly as the terrain shifts underfoot.
From volcanic craters to alpine ridgelines, the system stays consistent — no matter the climate, elevation, or speed of the moment.
Built for filmmakers who move before the landscape does.
Fast Forward. Always.
