Eching –  Flexible, multifunctional, modular – SOOM, the multifunctional tool by Sachtler, a Vitec Group brand, has newly defined camera support. It offers professional and semi-professional HDV users a 75 mm tripod, a monopod and a baby tripod which combine to create the SOOM XL System. For camera operators this means maximum flexibility for smoother day-to-day production. Matching heads, an innovative battery concept and an LED camera luminaire complement the system perfectly. The camera support system has already been recognized with awards on numerous occasions.

The SOOM basis system consists of a 75 mm tripod called the SOOM TriPod and a mid-level spreader called the SOOM TriSpread, which combine with a monopod called the SOOM Tube to create the SOOM XL System. The SOOM TriSpread can itself be transformed into an outstanding baby tripod with just a few easy moves. Thus the new slogan: “1+1+1=4” – intelligently combining the TriPod, TriSpread and Tube creates the SOOM XL System, making four products from just three.



Mike Steffl, a cameraman at the Bavarian Broadcast Corporation, has extensively tested the SOOM system. He has been fascinated by the system's unlimited possibilities: “A tripod system that offers the SOOM's range of applications has been missing on the market until now. No other tripod system offers the mid-level spreader’s brilliant second function as a removable baby tripod. Sachtler has virtually reinvented camera support.”


Flexible and reliable


The SOOM TriPod is based on Sachtler’s proven 100 mm single-extension ENG tripod and has a height range of 68.5 to 141 cm / 27 to 55.5". The SOOM TriSpread guarantees firm footing, and in its dual role as baby-tripod it also features a 75 mm head fixture and offers a height range of 20.5 to 48 cm / 8.5" to 19.3". The SOOM Tube can also stand alone as a monopod with a height range of 87 to 157 cm / 34.3 to 61.8". The intelligent combination of the TriPod, TriSpread and SOOM Tube results in the SOOM XL System, which telescopes to a maximum lens height of approx. 250 cm / 98.4".



SOOM offers the best prerequisites to achieve the best view at, for example, sports events, concerts or weddings, thus ensuring optimal shots from every perspective. It is also suitable for camera operators who travel alone, as the system offers a range of modules that combine to enable optimal shooting in any situation, including extreme shooting conditions. In addition, SOOM is robust, lightweight, easy to transport and absolutely reliable.


Creative and multifunctional


Camera operator Sebastian Georgi used the multifunctional tool to shoot for a fashion campaign of Hugo Boss. During the shoot experimental work, creativity and spontaneity were extremely important. And for Georgi, creativity also depends on the equipment used: “I like to get unusual takes that camera operators don't normally shoot. Images that are blurred, concealed, reflected, distorted, greatly altered using digital processing programs, or even destroyed. The SOOM XL System's multifunctionality and fast, flexible handling encourage his style of creative shooting. “The SOOM Tube allows totally new camera movements. It’s like a cross between a hand-held camera and mini-crane. We were also really impressed by the speed at which the Sachtler SOOM converts” adds Georgi.



Modular and compatible


The Sachtler FSB heads are especially suitable for the combination with SOOM: The FSB 4 to FSB 8. They wear the "works with SOOM" label, and are equipped with the FSB CELL – the innovative battery concept from Sachtler – and the Sachtler Reporter LED. Sachtler has developed a special bag for SOOM and the "works with SOOM" family: With carrying straps, wheels, and backpack straps, the equipment can also be easily transported on longer routes or rough terrain. In addition, there are pockets and holders for the heads as well as for the battery and the light.
