An earthquake that nearly destroyed the entire city. A mayor, who loves to provoke. And 11,000 Sicilians who enjoy debating. A lot of material for a documentary that the Austrian filmmaker Philipp Kaindl recorded with the FSB 6 fluid head, the Speed Lock 75 CF tripod, and the Reporter LED camera light – all products from Sachtler.
In 1968, an earthquake hit the city of Salemi in Sicily and caused severe damage. After that, only some of the destroyed houses were rebuilt. Mayor Vittorio Sgarbi's offer is supposed to bring relief: Interested buyers get one of the damaged houses for one euro, under the condition that the buyers restore them to their original style within two years at their own expense. However, this offer has not been met with approval by everyone in Salemi.
Philipp Kaindl, who works as an independent filmmaker, has already made several no-budget productions and has done commissioned work in the form of advertising and music videos. In his documentary, he mixes reporting style with personal narrative. Interviews are the main focus. Not all of the interviewes are willing to speak in front of the camera, so if someone agrees to an interview, it has to go quickly. Philipp Kaindl works with the Speed Lock 75 CF tripod from Sachtler that can be set up in the wink of an eye.
"The tripod set-up is easy and quick – ideal for my purposes. I mainly use it for city filming and fast motion video."

"In addition, I had the FSB 6 fluid head with me," reports the filmmaker. "I really like the workmanship and quality of Sachtler products. I particularly appreciate the FSB 6 features when panning. The pan is light and even." The Sachtler Reporter LED camera light was also on-site in Sicily. "In the main square of Salemi we also shot interviews at night. The Reporter LED provided us optimal illumination. It is easy to use with the FSB CELL, can be used for a long period of time, and is dimmable: all functions that are important to me when doing spontaneous street interviews.
