The Argentinian films El Custodio / The Bodyguard and El Otro / The Other were honored with awards at the 2006 and 2007 Berlinale respectively. With his artemis Cine HD system, Peter Triviño was one of the leading camera operators on both films. His camera stabilizing system is part of the artemis HD line-up, which offers every operator precision, speed and picture diversity.
Dario “Peter” Fernández Triviño had worked as a cameraman for many years before discovering the camera stabilizing system for himself in 1994. Soon afterwards he attended a workshop offered by camera operator Gene Taylor and dived into the nature of camera stabilization for the first time:
Unpredictability, obscure locations, short scenes, and fast movements make life difficult for producers and camera operators alike, not to mention elaborate sets that include cranes and track systems. Camera stabilizing systems offer another possibility: during the shoot, the operator is able to move freely, quickly trail actorsí movements, turn around, climb stairs, etc. – and the rig does the rest! So every hectic shoot produces perfect, smooth-flowing pictures. Blurred pictures are passé, as the stabilizing system isolates the camera from the operator’s movements. Fascinated by the opportunities this technology was offering, Peter purchased his first system in 1996.
Peter chose the artemis Cine HD system after checking out the extensive range of stabilizing systems on the market: “The artemis is developed by operators who work intimately with camera stabilizing systems, and know well the difficulties that can arise during a shoot. In the end, this was the crucial consideration for me.” The artemis Cine HD system is perfect for professional film, HD and SD video applications. Its modular construction makes it adaptable to every production situation, and it also offers patented HD video signal
processing and dual dynamic balance. Another important criterion behind Peter’s choice: “Operators on any Argentinian film face the problem of low budgets, and producers usually have no money to hire lighter cameras for shooting with most common camera stabilizing systems. I need equipment that allows me to work with heavy cameras, too!” he explains. The artemis system’s modular design enables quick and easy changeover from lightweight to heavy cameras and vice-versa as the operator deems necessary.
In 2005 Peter had the opportunity to work on Rodrigo Moreno’s El Custodio. The film portrayed a bodyguard whose life’s work was to act as a shadow to another human being. El Custodio received the Alfred Bauer Prize at the Berlinale in 2006 and premiered in German cinemas on May 24, 2007.
Last year Peter Triviño worked with director Ariel Rotter on his second film El Otro, a story about a routine business trip that suddenly becomes an expedition into another life and a journey inward. While cameraman Marcelo Lavintman shot with an Arri BL 4, Peter provided perfect clips with his artemis Cine HD system: “At first they planned to shoot the whole film using a tripod” he comments, “but the Estacion Terminal de Liniers, the large central bus terminal in Buenos Aires, proved to be a difficult location. The producers were only given permission to shoot for two hours. This was too short a time to set up cranes and tracks to shoot at a busy location like a central bus station. The only solution at this point was to shoot the scenes quickly with the help of an artemis system. We met early in the morning. I put my artemis on and we filmed all the scenes in less than two hours,“ says Peter Triviño proudly.
El Otro received awards soon after its world premiere at the Berlinale 2007, and director Ariel Rotter took two Silver Bears home with him.

“I have been working with the artemis Cine HD system for more than three years, and have never had any problems with heavy cameras or video cameras. There have been situations where I urgently needed new accessories for the system. With Sachtler this has never been a problem. The parts from Germany always arrive in Argentina within two days. The sled, the arm and the vest always function smoothly. I am really very happy with the artemis.”
