At IBC 2008 Joop Janssen, CEO Broadcast Systems Division, Vitec Group plc talks about investigation in future product development and innovation in the EMEA production sector.

„While worldwide market penetration of the HD camera is still far below the 50% mark, EMEA market growth has gained momentum in the last 12 months.  While HD in News still has to take off, with accelerating growth in new HD channels in Europe and the global support of the Blue-Ray disc format, HD camera sales will grow rapidly and catch up with the American market in the next few years.

In addition to High Definition transition, the continuing increase in the number of live events being broadcast to international audiences is definitely driving our industry forward. This brings tremendous opportunities for new products and technologies that address the flexibility and transportability these live events require.  For example, wireless camera systems in HD format or Voice over IP communication systems.

The other area where we are seeing strong growth is the move to automated and Virtual Reality studios.  The beauty of broadcast robotics and content automation is that it allows broadcasters to develop new working methods that use the technology and the human input each to best advantage.  

This opens up the market for many small, tightly run broadcast organisations to deliver high quality, creative programming for audiences in a range of entertainment formats.“
