Old heads for adolescent films

A whole year at home alone - and without parents - is usually every adolescent's dream. Step by faltering step, however, 16-year-old Dan learns about some of life's difficulties in the adult world. On the way he meets his first love and tries to come to grips with the strange new feelings that arise. 48 Shades (Australia, 2006), a coming-of-age comedy by director Daniel Lapaine, has received rave revues, and not just from teenagers.

The adolescent comedy was shot by, among others, camera man Tony Luu, who used his old Sachtler studio head 7+7. Even though this head has not been manufactured for over 10 years, it is still used widely in professional shoots. The classic head, together with Tony, even appeared in the cover picture of the Australian Cinematographers March 2007 edition, which also ran a review of the film. The cover photo featuring Tony Luu and the studio head 7 + 7 was shot by photographer Thom Kotis.
