In the HSE24 studio and during location shoots Dieter Baron, Head of Studio Technology, relies on Sachtler tripods, fluid heads and an artemis system.

“From eight a.m. till midnight“

Twenty-four hours a day – 16 hours live – the home shopping channel HSE24 broadcasts sales shows from its studio in Munich. “Equipment for quick, precise and reliable TV productions - that’s what we need for our daily live shows,” explains Dieter Baron, Head of Studio Technology Department at HSE24.

HIGH FUNCTIONALITY
For the 16-hour live operation HSE24 uses the Vario Pedestal 2-75 as well as the Video 25 Plus FB and Video 30 II fluid heads by Sachtler – in the studio as well as during location shoots. In Dieter Baron’s opinion, the use of Sachtler equipment offers several advantages: ”Besides being located so close to the Sachtler site in Eching, the crucial reasons for using Sachtler equipment are, above all, the durability and versatility of the Sachtler pedestals. Also, our cinematographers kept mentioning the precise adjustability of the fluid heads.”

The Crab & Steer function of the Vario Ped 2-75 enables an easy maneuvering and defined cornering. As the pedestal works with an air-filled column, the operating costs are low. The Sachtler fluid head Video 25 Plus FB offers an 18-

step counterbalance and a tilt range from +90° to -75°. Due to its enormous payload of 35 kg (77 lb) it is perfectly suited for HDTV and widescreen cameras.

ARTEMIS SYSTEM: FREEDOM OF THE CAMERA
To enable even more flexible shoots in the studio, HSE24 has been using the Sachtler camera stabilizing system artemis EFP Pro HD SDI, the Cordura vest ACT2 as well as the aluminum spring arm since 2007. Thus, when shooting in the studio the cameraman is able to move around more freely, follow the presenter, show the products from extreme perspectives and use spontaneous pan shots – absolutely smooth shots, because the camera is isolated from the movement of the cameraman. The “Dual Dynamic Balance” makes it possible to achieve a perfect balance, no matter what kind of camera is used. Dieter Baron is thrilled by the artemis system: “By using artemis for shooting, we are able to present the selected products to the audience in an even better way.” Dieter Baron has been working for the multi-channel store HSE24 since 1998. Among other things, he was co-responsible for the technical setup of the production facilities in the United Kingdom, Italy and Belgium.
